每年7月28日為世界肝炎日，在香港大部分的肝癌病例，均與乙型肝炎病毒及丙型肝炎病毒感染有關，而有近八成肝癌病例，都乙型肝炎相關。政府推算，全港有約41萬人患有乙型肝炎，即平均每二十人，就有一人患有慢性乙肝。由於慢性乙肝可長達數十年都沒有症狀，直至肝功能受損、出現肝硬化甚至肝癌才出現病徵，及早發現能盡早治理。政府在今年初推出乙型肝炎共同治理計劃，期望及早識別社區中患者，方便作出長期醫學跟進；亦有大學醫學院團隊展開根除乙肝的研究。目前還有甚麼局限？
July 28th is World Hepatitis Day. In Hong Kong, most liver cancer cases are related to hepatitis B and hepatitis C virus infections, with nearly 80% of liver cancer cases linked to hepatitis B. The government estimates that approximately 410,000 people in Hong Kong have hepatitis B, meaning that on average, one in every twenty people has chronic hepatitis B. Because chronic hepatitis B can be asymptomatic for decades, symptoms only appear when liver function is impaired, cirrhosis develops, or even liver cancer occurs. Early detection allows for timely treatment. Earlier this year, the government launched a joint hepatitis B management plan to identify patients in the community early, facilitating long-term medical follow-up. University medical school teams are also conducting research on eradicating hepatitis B. What limitations remain?
